Retail grocery enables SD-WAN across 340+ sites resulting in $400,000 annual savings

Enabling SD-WAN

In 2017 Com-Strat contracted with a national retail grocery client to assess their existing MPLS over T1 or Ethernet over Copper with 3G wireless back up connecting stores, distribution centers, the Data center and Headquarters. The company was experiencing an average of 24 minutes of downtime per day. The client goals were to improve their uptime, increase bandwidth, acquire enhanced performance management tools and investigate cost savings.

After reviewing a wide range of industry options, the client selected a managed SD-WAN with Public Internet over cable or DSL with 4GLTE wireless backup over wireless backup antennas. The resulting successful deployment resulted in:

  • Increased bandwidth by more than 500
  • Better visibility into individual site/store network performanc
  • Immediate failover capabilities utilizing dynamic path switching providing improved reliabilit
  • Encrypted traffic on both public and private networks for added securit
  • Increased network visibility via embedded analytic tool
  • Improved provisioning and deployment time (average of 45 minutes plug and play
  • POTS line replacement with VoIP with an additional savings of $100/store/month for almost $400,000 per year in savings.
